There can be people or situations that arise that cause tension and in denial amongst many people. This is demonstrated in the play A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams with the characters Blanche, her sister Stella and her husband Stanley. The minute Blanche walks in Stanley and Stella’s home is when the drama and tension starts to begin. Right away Blanche and Stanley do not get along very well. The way she carries herself, responds and acts does not bode well to Stanley, so they clash very often. Although they are not very fond of each other, they have an intimate desire towards one another.
At the climax of this play Stanley rapes Blanche in a drunken state. She tells her sister Stella about what had occurred, but it was as if Stella did not want to believe it. She is so blinded by love and the desire to be with Stanley that she chooses not to see the bad in him. She does this with Blanche as well when she is defending her against Stanley for the way she is. She has to choose between standing by her sister or standing by her husband, the father of her soon to be child. In the end she chooses Stanley and lets her sister be taken in by a hospital. Stella has such a strong desire and attraction to Stanley that she cannot let him go. This is similar in today’s news with President Donald Trump. Many people who wanted Donald Trump to be president knew what his goals and plans were for this country, yet they still disregarded many of the bad habits he had. He disrespected women very openly and was not afraid to lash out his opinions on many other matters that were clearly offensive. It is as if the people who wanted him to be President were in denial about his true self and did not care about who he really was.
This quote resembled the choice Stella had to make in order to make her happy. When she chose to stay with Stanley after knowing what he did to her sister, it shows how much she cares about having someone to take care of her even though she knew the truth. She chose to look past his actions because she wanted him so badly compared to Blanche.  Just like the people who agreed with President Trump, they wanted what he was promising so bad, that they chose to overlook the way he spoke about other topics including his views on people.
